Everyone is talking about personal growth, self-development, and improvement, but what does it mean, and where to start?
There are days I wake up and just go through the daily motions.
I make breakfast, get dressed, and go to work. 3 times a week I go to the gym before my work. After work, I usually make dinner. Then I read, play games, and go to bed.
The next day, I do it all over again.
After some time, it starts to feel like vicious monotony.
If you feel like this, I have good news. You are not alone, and you can change that.
Self-development is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.
When you develop yourself, you learn how to take control of your life and create the future you want for yourself.
Self-improvement is essential for personal growth.
Personal development is looking inward and focusing on ways to be a better version of yourself.
You want to reach your fullest potential.
You can do it in many aspects of your life:
- Mental - learning writing, playing new instruments, reading
- Social - problem-solving, communication, building relationships, being able to receive feedback
- Emotional - understanding your feelings, emotions, and how they influence your behavior
- Physical - nutrition, sleep, exercise
It’s always a good idea to read a book and follow some advice.
Great books I read and helped me in a lot of ways:
- Atomic Habits (James Clear) - if you want to establish a new habit or get rid of the bad one
- The Richest Man in Babylon (George S. Clason) - a financial and motivational guide that has led generations to personal and monetary success.
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck (Mark Manson) - is a generation-defining self-help guide about being comfortable with being different and caring about something more important than adversity.
These books and many others give you hints about what you might want. They can help you to start with your development goal.
Same as any other goal, it’s good to have a plan.
- You have to identify where you want to improve. The best way is to write down your strengths, and weaknesses. Ask yourself who you want to be and what you have to do to be that person. Pick one thing. It’s better to focus on one change, and after you master it, then you can add another one.
- Assemble a plan. You don’t have to do it alone, you can ask a coach to help you with that. Create a plan, stick to it, and develop consistency.
- Be honest about your progress. Ask friends or family for feedback. This needs a big portion of self-awareness. You can always change a plan or direction. Don’t push yourself too hard. If it goes slowly, let it go slowly.
Remember life is a continuous learning process.
Self-improvement is not a change that occurs overnight.
But thanks to this journey, you are getting to know yourself better. It will allow you to figure out what you want from life.
