How to Start Working on Yourself

Be The Person You Look Up To - How to Start Working on Yourself

Do you find yourself constantly scrolling through social media, admiring the success and confidence of others?

Here's how to turn that admiration into action and become the person you truly admire: yourself.

Self-improvement is important for a multitude of reasons, impacting various aspects of your life.

Here are some key benefits:

As you work on yourself and achieve goals, you'll naturally develop a greater sense of accomplishment and self-belief. This newfound confidence spills over into different areas of life, making you feel more capable and empowered.

Life is a constant learning experience. By actively engaging in self-improvement, you open yourself up to new knowledge, skills, and experiences. This growth keeps life interesting and allows you to reach your full potential.

When you work on yourself, you often develop better communication skills, empathy, and emotional intelligence. This can lead to stronger, healthier relationships with friends, family, and romantic partners.

Self-improvement often involves developing positive habits and fostering a growth mindset. This can contribute to a reduction in stress, anxiety, and depression. By becoming the best version of yourself, you'll likely experience greater overall happiness and well-being.

By continuously learning and developing new skills, you become a more valuable asset in the workplace. Self-improvement demonstrates initiative, a desire to learn, and a commitment to excellence, all qualities employers seek.

Life throws curveballs. Self-improvement often involves developing coping mechanisms and emotional intelligence. This resilience allows you to bounce back from setbacks and navigate challenges more effectively.

Self-improvement often leads to a clearer understanding of your values and goals. By actively working on yourself, you align your actions with your purpose, creating a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Overall, self-improvement is not about achieving perfection. It's about becoming the best version of yourself, one step at a time. The journey itself is rewarding, leading to a happier, more fulfilling, and successful life.

So you decided you wanted to improve. And you keep asking yourself, "Where the hell do I start?"

Let me help you.

Answer these questions:

  • Do you have a role model?
  • Do you admire someone?
  • Why?
  • What qualities do they possess that you want to cultivate?

Choose 2-3 key qualities your role model embodies. You should focus on those things.

Now implement them into your daily life.

I read a book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear and he writes:

“True behavior change is identity change. You might start a habit because of motivation, but the only reason you’ll stick with one is it becomes part of your identity. The goal is not to read a book, the goal is to become a reader. The goal is not to run a marathon, the goal is to become a runner.”

And this is true. If you want to be an entrepreneur, imitate their habits. You want to get up early, work on your business, be productive, exercise, and eat healthy.

Throughout the day, you can question yourself: what would "insert your hero" do in this situation? Would he or she postpone the task? Would he or she procrastinate? Will he/she miss his/her daily run?

You do not want to be that person; you are that person.

It's almost like "fake it till you make it." If you behave as if you are already that person, everything will become natural to you over time.

If you want to dig more, try to set goals for yourself. Break down your aspirations into smaller, achievable goals.

For example, if you admire your friend's confidence when public speaking, a SMART goal might be to join a local club within the next month.

Don't overwhelm yourself! Begin with small, daily habits that align with your goals. This could be anything from reading 10 pages of a self-improvement book each day to practicing mindfulness exercises for 5 minutes. Going for a run 3 times a week.

There's a wealth of information available to support your self-improvement journey. Explore books, online courses, workshops, or even podcasts on topics related to your desired qualities.

Planners are an excellent tool. It doesn't matter whether it's a digital or paper planner.

Personally, I enjoy the Notion app. You can access your planner from any device, including when traveling. If you're interested, I have a planner template that will guide you through the entire process of preparing your future. Setting goals for the month, week, and day. Helping you keep accountable and focused on your improvement goals. It allows you to evaluate your success during the journey and modify your focus as needed. Remember, self-improvement is a marathon, not a sprint.

There will be setbacks and moments of doubt.

By taking these actionable steps, you can turn admiration into action and start transforming yourself into the person you've always wanted to be.

Remember, the most important thing is to take that first step.

Be patient with yourself, celebrate your wins, and enjoy the journey of becoming the best version of you!
